(work in progress blog) I want to tell my experience and story about the creation of MELS 3D LABS Articulated Seahorse. Of all the Articulated designs, this has a unique story and place among them all. Early 2024, i was researching for an articulation no other designer has ever made. It should be an interesting creature as well, my research led me to seahorse, a beautiful creation of nature. THE SCULPTING My sculpting workflow evolved over the years, a systematic, hence its time consuming but foolproof approach to perfection. Typically i sculpt 2-3 days straight, mostly skipping breakfast as i get hyper obsessive. The sculpting path : Typically i could create a link and the body section, where then i can duplicate it, then scale it down and keep duplicating it up to the tail. MELS 3D LABS KINEMATICS THE IDEA FOR MELS 3D LABS CHRONOS, A 4 AXIS 3D PRINTER KINEMATICS, WAS CONCIEVED ON EARLY 2021. DESIGNED IN 10/27/2022 AND DIAGRAMS PUBLISHED ON GITHUB ON 7/16/2023 CHRONOS USES INTERNAL RING GEAR FOR THE ARC AXIS MOVEMENTS OF X AND Y WITH A THETA AXIS FOR A TOOL HEAD. PUBLISHING THE KINEMATICS AS A PROOF OF PRIOR ART SEARCH AND TO PRESERVE THE CREDIT OF THE KINEMATICS.

AS 3D Scanner Kinematics : The biggest advantage of chronos kinematics with a theta axis is that a physical model can be scanned perfectly from all sides and angles. Hence allowing a 3D printer to be a 3D scanner as well with a tool head swap.

It is a new 3D printer kinematics that takes a different approach for advanced 3d printing with 4 axes than traditional 3 axiz.
What are the benefits?
• 3 axis printers lack vertical strength, Meanwhile a 4 axes printer can compensate this issue to some extent, strengthening parts. • Time saving upto 30% faster than Core xy in theory. • Enables the printer to be a 3D SCANNER, With the addition of theta axis, the printer can be used as a 3D scanner, with a toolhead swap. • Using ring gears, the application can be of industrial and heavy loads. • 4 Axis CNC compatibility
