(work in progress blog) I want to tell my experience and story about the creation of MELS 3D LABS Articulated Seahorse. Of all the Articulated designs, this has a unique story and place among them all. Early 2024, i was researching for an articulation no other designer has ever made. It should be an interesting creature as well, my research led me to seahorse, a beautiful creation of nature. THE SCULPTING My sculpting workflow evolved over the years, a systematic, hence its time consuming but foolproof approach to perfection. Typically i sculpt 2-3 days straight, mostly skipping breakfast as i get hyper obsessive. The sculpting path : Typically i could create a link and the body section, where then i can duplicate it, then scale it down and keep duplicating it up to the tail. That would save a lot of time and effort. But for the seahorse, This wasn’t the case. The body is curved, hence even after duplicating, each link has to be precisely sculpted to preserve th...
C1 : The 500kg Steel beast. King of DIY printers.
Melxlxtreme C1 [Concrete prototype 1],
Is the successor of Melxlxtreme R1, the Bio plastic 3D printer designed by Mels 3D in 2020.
Melxlxtreme C1 is a low cost modular 3D concrete printer, which is capable of expanding its X,Y,Z axes to any desired length to increase the print size.
The core module which is being developed has a size of 2 meter square and printability of 1 meter square under 5000$ which can be further expanded with additional frames upto 15 meter square.
The printing is done with special concrete mix which is developed by Mels3D which can cure in a matter of hours.
The initial prints using the core module of the printer focuses on printing concrete vases, pillars, bricks, windows, fish ponds, experimental concrete bee hives, concrete book shelves, teapoy, park benches, park stairs, lounge chairs, continuous concrete walls with infinite length and other concrete decorative & accessories.
Once the print quality has been tuned, with additional funding and development, the 2 meter printer can be expanded upto 15 meter square
